What are the different types of Natural Stone?
Granite is a naturally beautiful stone, with hundreds of colour choices, different patterns, veins, markings and swirls. Each and every stone is unique. It is very hard wearing, durable almost impossible to scratch, easy to maintain and long lasting. Granite adds elegance, quality and value to any room.
Limestone has become very popular over the last 10 years due to its natural and consistent appearance. Unlike marble and granite, limestone generally doesn’t take a polish, which does mean it is more porous and susceptible to staining. However if sealed and with care and attention it will maintain its natural beauty. Limestone’s soft and neutral colours will add a sense of luxury to your room.
Marble is quarried all over the world and is instantly recognisable. Its endless variety of colour patterns, veining and swirls makes each piece of material unique in itself. It is not as hard-wearing as granite but with a little care and attention will maintain its natural beauty. Maintenance is not an issue as it can be cleaned easily. Marble will add style, luxury and quality to any room.
Travertine is a beautiful natural stone material from the limestone family. It is made of soft calcium carbonate and is usually found in the form of deposits near bubbling warm or hot springs. When quarried by man the open holes are filled at the surface with either epoxy or travertine dust to offer a smooth closed finished look.
Basalt is an igneous rock, basically solidified magma or lava flows. Some basalts are compact; some have small holes caused by volcanic gas bubbles. Basalt is usually dark in colour.
